Poinsettias

The Poinsettia was first introduced into the United States in 1825 by the botanist, Joel Robert Poinsett. He noticed these flowers growing on the highsides in Mexico and sent a few back to his home in South Carolina. From there, plants were sent to other botanists in Philadelphia and in California. In 1902, Albert Ecke, who newly immigrated from Germany to California, began to grow cut-flowers for for local businesses which included gladioli, chrysanthemums, and poinsettias. Eventually he and his family focused solely on growing poinsettias, and from his and his family's trials and experiments began the long journey to the various varieties and colors that you see today.
For ease of understanding, there are two "quality-offerings" of Poinsettias: Florist-Quality, and Mass-Market-quality. Florist-Quality poinsettias are what we have been growing since 1993. They are large, vibrant, healthy, and very long-lasting!
